Cool news! A team of Austin-based filmmakers (well, mostly Austin based) are ganging up to do a remake of Richard Linklater's Slacker -- it'll be Slacker . . . just 20 years later. Here's an article from Slackerwood that discusses the project!
The remake will be showcasing all new actors and the ever-evolving face of Austin (in all its glorious weirdness). I will be one of about 20 directors on this project -- each of us directing one segment. It should be fun and it's for a GREAT cause -- all proceeds will go to fund the Texas Filmmakers Prodution Fund (TFPF), which is one of THE VERY FEW places that still gives grant money to support film artists that reside in Texas. With a small donation, you can help fund the TFPF and also get free tickets to go watch the world premiere of the new Slacker remake (Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and even Kayne West will be in attendance). To learn more about the project or to donate to the cause, go here and check out the Austin Film Society's website.
